Shrek The Musical

The official musical version of DreamWorks smash hit animated movie Shrek is on tour again with a new cast and staging but the same feel-good vibes!

It's been a huge hit on Broadway and in the West End with its heartwarming story, original songs and hilarious script and a Milton Keynes Theatre was packed with families as the show returned this week.

The cast includes Antony Lawrence donning the green bodypaint as Shrek, Strictly's Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona, James Gillan as Lord Farquaad and Brandon Lee Sears as Donkey.

The show has been brought up to date with the latest video technology used to recreate larger than life scenes like the dragon's lair and Princess Fiona's tower, and an ingenious combination of puppetry and a separate actor used to bring the dragon to life with a stunning vocal performance from rising star Cherece Richards (Once On This Island, Regent's Park Theatre) making her debut in a principal role as the Dragon.

There's some great singing and dancing with songs including ‘I'm A Believer’, ‘Big Bright Beautiful World’ and ‘I Know It's Today’.

This is a great fun night out for the whole family although the dialogue in several scenes is quite shouty and the sound levels were very loud in the theatre which might not be ideal for younger children, there is a great energy to the show which has certainly earned its reputation as a “musical extravaganza for big kids and little kids alike”.
