In the 25th birthday year of Milton Keynes Theatre, the Christmas pantomime is the same story as the theatre's first pantomime, with the return of Peter Pan.
The swashbuckling high-flying adventure stars Strictly judge Craig Revell-Horwood as a fab-u-lous Captain Hook alongside comedian and ventriloquist Max Fulham as Smee and West End stars Ross Carpenter as Peter Pan, Zara MacIntosh as Tink and Evelyn Hoskins as Wendy.
Of course, there are stunning costumes, special effects that will make children's mouths fall open and some great singing and dancing - Craig Revell-Horwood's finale of My Way is a true show-stopper and he revels in shrugging off the audience's boos and talking about the Darrrrlings.
But it's the comedy ventriloquism from Max Fulham that steals the show, often alone on the stage he works the audience brilliantly from his entrance riding a motorised toilet to the finale. There are some stand out moments, with a great comedy acrobatics performance from the Acromaniacs as Hook's henchmen with Smee joining in and some great aerial action from Peter and the Darlings - newcomer Oli Manning shines as Michael, joined by Adam Pinnock as John and Evelyn Hoskins as Wendy.
Although the show omits some traditional pantomime elements, such as a dame or principal boy, it more than makes up for it with its enchanting panto magic. Packed with charm, adventure, and plenty of laughs, this production is a delightful festive treat for the whole family. Our four-year-old was utterly captivated from start to finish, eyes wide with wonder at the flying scenes, laughing at Smee's antics, and cheering for Peter Pan. It’s a real festive treat that brings the magic of Christmas alive for the whole family. Peter Pan at Milton Keynes Theatre is the perfect way to make special memories this festive season.
