Mayor of Milton Keynes officially opens Willen On Ice

Willen On Ice was officially opened last night by the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Marie Bradburn marking the return of the magical festive experience to Willen Lake.

The hugely popular ice rink is back for 2024, and last night’s launch event was attended by over 400 local dignitaries, community members, media, influencers and excited families, showcasing the stunning transformation into a winter wonderland. The Mayor of Milton Keynes met with guests and took the honours in cutting the ribbon together with the Willen On Ice team.

“I was delighted to officially open Willen On Ice for the season," said The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Marie Bradburn. "This fantastic event brings our community together, offering a joyful experience for all ages. There's nothing quite like the magic of ice skating during the festive season, and I'm excited to see families and friends creating unforgettable memories right here in our city. I encourage everyone to come down, lace up your skates, and enjoy the winter fun!” said the Mayor of Milton Keynes.

The Mayor was one of many guests keen to see the workman’s daughter’s phone in the ice which has attracted international press attention in the past couple of days, and has also gone viral on social media - totalling 1.3 million views on TikTok so far.

With the rink now open, the 800sqm rink will welcome many guests over the coming months including performances at a special charity event this Saturday by Team Icicles, who proudly compete as Team GB in international competitions. In addition to ice skating, the expanded Willen On Ice experience offers a festive fairground, traditional street food stalls, and a cozy Après Bar, serving a selection of winter warmers for visitors to enjoy.

• Adults: £12.40 (off-peak), £15.40 (peak)
• Discounts: NUS discount available for students
