MK City Council call for local residents to join Great British Spring Clean campaign

Milton Keynes City Council has pledged its support for this year’s Great British Spring Clean campaign and called for local people to get involved.

Led by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the mass-action environmental campaign encourages local authorities, businesses and residents to help pick up litter and rubbish.

This year’s campaign runs from 21 March to 6 April.

MK City Council have encouraged residents who wish to get involved in this year’s iteration to grab a litter picking kit to help spruce up your local area.

The City Council litter picking sets are available to borrow from our partners in the community, such as parish councils and resident associations. The kits contain high visibility vests, litter picks and gloves available for both adults and children.

Anyone interested can find their local collection point on the MK City Council website, as well as also finding additional guidance.

Keeping MK clean – which includes dealing with litter, fly tipping and other environmental mess costs the City Council an average of £5m every year. By taking part it all helps to make a huge difference to the environment, over and above the work of the City Council’s environmental teams.

In a YouGov survey carried out for Keep Britain Tidy, more than four million people in our region said ‘litter-free’ streets would help them love where they live.

Interim Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, Cllr Akash Nayee, said, “We work hard to keep MK clean and appreciate local people taking part in helping and to take pride in where they live. To make it easier, we’re offering people the opportunity to borrow litter pick kits free of charge.”
